Guipos, ZDS – dubbed as people’s camp, Camp David Sabido the home of the 53rd Infantry battalion of the Army’s premier division is now turnover by the Provincial Government to the Philippine Army.
Last February 24, 2009, Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles signed a deed of donation authorized by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through Resolution No. 2k8-276, dated February 27 2008 is in favor to the Armed Forces of the
LTGEN Victor S. Ibrado (AFP) Commanding General of the Philippine Army came to receive the donation from the governor. Sprawling with 16.5733 hectares of public land, Camp David Sabido can now build its permanent infrastructure to accommodate a modern army command camp.
“With gratitude in behalf of the Commander-in-chief, the Chief of Staff of the AFP, and the field commanders of the 1st Infantry Division, this is valuable donation us specifically the 53rd IB Matapat Troopers can now call this their home” He said.
Meanwhile Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles said that it is a significant milestone to the steadfast support to the mission of the AFP, specifically to the 53rd IB headed by LTC Samuel Gayongorza.
“ This is our indicative endorsement to the officer and men of this army battalion in achieving peace and development in this area but also for the “Zambosurians” to realized that, this is also our gift to their untiring effort in the campaign to achieve and empowers us in the development of peace” she said.
This military reservation, Camp David Sabido is named after Major David P. Sabido, Commanding Officer of the 10th Infantry Battalion who was killed –in-action during the treacherous attacks of the Abu Sayaff in Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay in 1995.
Major Sabido’s battalion is one of the army battalion that was based in Guipos. Other army units that stayed in the people’ camp were: 1st Composite Infantry Battalion, 103rd Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Battalion, 55th Infantry Battalion, 51st Infantry Battalion and the 53rd Infantry Battalion.
Historically, the military reservation was an agricultural land purchased by the provincial government thru Resolution No. 18 during the time of Governor Vicente Madarang Cerilles to accommodate the 8th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division at 1,000 per hectare comprising 43.6129 hectares.
